the myth of island paradise

 

in a five-part series for australian geographic, i had the opportunity to report on some of australia's smallest island communities, places where koalas outnumber people and the tides shape daily life.

 

these remote islands, home to less than 1% of australia's population, are seeing a shift as more people turn away from high-cost city living in search of a simpler life.

 

but does "island paradise" exist, or is it a myth born from countless literary depictions?

 

i explore the lives of island residents - artists, pearl farmers, publishers, rangers - writing about the little details of island life, the contradictions it holds, and the tides that create new routines and rituals catch the first three instalments in print and in the links below.
